Need a little inspiration to get crafty and make this St. Patrick’s Day extra fun for the kids? @ShineBrightLittleMinds joins us on the blog to share 3 great St. Patrick’s Day crafts everyone will love! Grab your Smockets, green glitter, and get creating!
Even if you are not Irish celebrating St. Patrick’s Day can be a fun activity with you and your child. There are so many different crafts and activities to celebrate this day. Here are a few of our favorites we have decided to use to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year!
Leprechaun Trap
Do you remember building a leprechaun trap in elementary school? If not, now is the perfect time to create one with your child. You can use any items around your house to create a fun trap and kids of all ages will enjoy building it with you.
In the trap we created we used:
- Green construction paper
- Colored popsicle sticks (you could also color/paint regular popsicle sticks)
- Shamrock stickers
- Leprechaun Hat
- Pipe cleaners
- Gold Coins
- Lucky Charms cereal
- Scotch tape
Build a trap and leave a trace of a leprechaun for your child to find the next day! We recommend a pot full of chocolate coins or slime!
Do You Want to Build a Rainbow?
Play-dough is one of the best sensory activities to stimulate your child’s senses and engage them in play. This activity is fun and easy to throw together!
Grab some green playdough or make some from scratch, either will work great! Visit your local dollar store and purchase some pipe cleaners, St. Patrick’s Day accessories, beads, coins, paper straws and anything else you think your child would enjoy burying in the playdough.
The best part of loose play with playdough is allowing your child to lead the play and explore. If you want to show them how to make a rainbow, cut your pipe cleaners in half and stick them in the playdough creating an arc shape.
My son can play with playdough for 30+ minutes straight, which is awesome for a 3 year old. When your child is engaged and leading their play you will see how much more they enjoy the activity.
Leprechaun Lookers
As we all know Leprechauns are allusive and hard to find, so why not create something to help you catch one! Time to create your very own set of Leprechaun Lookers! You can use any items you have around your house to decorate your leprechaun lookers. In the lookers we created we used:
- 2 Toilet paper rolls (you can use a paper towel roll cut in half)
- Pipe cleaners
- Green construction paper
- 4 leaf clover stickers/foam pieces
- Buttons or anything else you want to glue on the lookers
- Hot Glue gun or school glue
- Glitter/confetti
Cover the toilet paper rolls with the green construction paper and glue the rolls together. Let your child decorate with the rest of the items they want to use to make their very own personalized leprechaun lookers. For added fun allow your child to color/draw on the construction paper before you cut and glue onto the toilet paper rolls. If you don’t hate glitter, you can add that for a special sparkle to your lookers. The options are endless for decorating and personalizing your lookers. Let you child create and design their lookers!
